General Description :
Quest Folic Acid is important for a developing foetus, as it ensures adequate folic to the essential normal closure of the neural tube (precursor to the central nervous system). It is recommended that women take a folic acid supplement from when they stop using contraception untill the 12th week of pregnancy.
Quest Folic Acid is required for the breakdown of homocysteine; elevated homocysteine is associated with cardiovascular disease. Folic acid is also required for normal DNA metabolism and is involved in genetic expression and cell division. Folic acid is recommended to reduce the risk of folic acid deficiency associated with an increased risk of neural tube defects and also with a type of anemia called megaloblastic anemia.
